The Gigabyte MZ73-LM1 (Rev. 3.x) is a specialized dual-socket server motherboard designed for AMD EPYC 9005 “Turin” and 9004 “Genoa” processors. Unlike standard boards, it utilizes an extended Deep E-ATX form factor (304.8 x 335.2 mm) to accommodate a robust feature set while optimizing layout for airflow. This platform is engineered for data centers requiring the raw compute power of dual SP5 sockets and the bandwidth of PCIe Gen5 expansion slots, balanced with a cost-effective Gen4 storage subsystem.
Dual EPYC Compute Density
The board is built to host two high-performance processors with a cTDP of up to 400W. It enables 12-channel memory architectures per socket through 24 DIMM slots, supporting DDR5 ECC RDIMM/3DS RDIMM memory. With speeds up to 6400 MT/s (on EPYC 9005) or 4800 MT/s (on EPYC 9004), it provides the massive memory bandwidth required for high-performance computing (HPC) and complex virtualization workloads.
Strategic Storage Mix: Gen4 SlimSAS & M.2
The MZ73-LM1 optimizes costs by deploying a proven PCIe Gen4 storage interface, perfect for applications where storage speed is secondary to capacity or compute power:
- Flexible SlimSAS Array: The board features two SlimSAS 8i connectors connected to CPU_1. These are highly versatile, supporting either 4x Gen4 NVMe drives for high-speed cache or up to 16x SATA drives for bulk storage. An additional SlimSAS 4i connector (from CPU_0) provides dedicated support for 4 more SATA drives.
- Boot Interface: A dedicated M.2 slot (2280/22110) running at PCIe Gen4 x4 is provided for the operating system, ensuring fast boot times without occupying front-bay drive slots.
PCIe 5.0 Expansion & Networking
While storage utilizes Gen4, the expansion slots leverage the full power of PCIe 5.0. The board offers four PCIe Gen5 x16 slots, doubling the bandwidth for next-generation GPUs, AI accelerators, or 400GbE NICs. Networking is handled onboard by the Broadcom BCM57416 controller, providing two 10GbE LAN ports natively, plus a dedicated management LAN.
