Intel Xeon Platinum 8470: 52-Core Sapphire Rapids CPU for Large-Scale Enterprise Workloads

The Intel Xeon Platinum 8470 is a high-end 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processor based on the Sapphire Rapids architecture, designed for demanding multi-socket servers. With 52 cores, 104 threads, a 2.0 GHz base frequency and up to 3.8 GHz turbo, plus 105 MB of L3 cache, it delivers a combination of high core density and solid single-thread responsiveness for complex enterprise workloads.

As a Platinum-class CPU, the Xeon 8470 targets two-socket and larger systems, enabling configurations with up to four or eight sockets on appropriate platforms. In such deployments the processor can scale to very high aggregate core counts and memory bandwidth, making it suitable for large virtualization clusters, shared-nothing databases, distributed analytics engines and mission-critical back-end services.

The Sapphire Rapids platform brings support for eight channels of DDR5 memory and significantly higher effective bandwidth compared to DDR4-based predecessors. For operators consolidating storage, compute and networking onto the same nodes, this I/O capability is critical for building balanced systems that avoid bottlenecks.

The 8470 is particularly well suited for environments where high core counts and memory bandwidth are required but where absolute maximum core density is not the only priority.
